The Flying Moose
The Flying Moose is located just off Hickman Road, west of 86th Street in Clive.  The bar is roomy with tables and booths, pool, darts, foosball and Big Buck Hunter. There are a variety of televisions around the bar and the music is pretty spot on for our tastes. I knew they had a great 2-for-1 happy hour that goes until 8 pm but when we heard $2 soft shell tacos, six of our nearest and dearest headed over to check it out.

You might be questioning what kind of taco you get at a bar for $2, right? Well I was pleasantly surprised to get a soft flour shell filled with ground beef, topped generously with lettuce, onions, tomatoes and served with a side of salsa and sour cream.  I mean, seriously, how can you go wrong with that?

We took full advantage of the 2-for-1 drinks too. Bud Light, Blue Moon, vodka lemonades, jack and coke and rum and diet cokes were all ordered.  Mixed drinks were good. Not weak but not burnt. We also tried the signature “Moose Juice” shot and the “Jish Bomb”. The Jish Bomb was AMAZING! It tasted just like a chewy SweeTart.

Looking forward to trying the Monday night burger basket and Wednesday night $8 grilled steak special (served with salad bar, garlic bread and baked potato). Did I mention they buy their meat local from one of my favorite shops in all the metro?
B & B, baby!

Staff is friendly. Patrons were a handful of regulars and a laid back after work crowd. Bathrooms were clean. Our only piece of advice? Watch out for the steps! They are clearly marked with bright yellow tape but I could see someone as graceful as myself missing a step up to the booth or down to the pool tables if too much liquor was consumed.

Stop by and tell R.D. that Three Drunk Chicks sent you!
Eggs & Jam
Breakfast/Brunch in West Des Moines
If you’re a child of the 90’s (or just love the music) and enjoy a great breakfast, Eggs & Jam (as in music jams, not what you put on toast) is a must try!

What we ate:
Bacon chorizo egg roll appetizer with cilantro sriracha sauce
Insane in the Membrane-turkey sausage, egg white quiche and spinach in a roasted red pepper
Ludabiscuits-two huge buttermilk biscuits smothered with sausage gravy
Slamwich-bacon, egg, arugula, tomato and herb aioli in between two waffles
Sabotage-plantain stuffed with bacon and cheese, topped with a fried egg, pico de gallo and avocado
All dishes served with breakfast potatoes or fresh fruit like grapes, watermelon, pineapple, etc. (not the nasty fruit like honeydew and cantaloupe).

What we drank:
2day Was a Good Day, The Chronic, Margarita with orange marmalade, spicy bloody Mary, Mimosa platter-bottle of champagne served with grapefruit, pineapple, orange and cranberry juices.

While enjoying the delicious food, we found ourselves head bobbing and singing along to great music. The atmosphere is so fun! The walls are decorated by a local artist to depict 90’s hip hop graffiti, food and scenery around Des Moines. The service was fast, friendly and very knowledgeable in answering our questions about their not-so-traditional menu.
